Early ORCID

Require ORCID verification for all co-authors before submission

What it does

Early ORCID ensures that every co-author’s ORCID identifier is verified through the official ORCID API before an article can be submitted. This eliminates incorrect or outdated ORCIDs in your publication metadata.

How it works

When enabled, the plugin modifies the submission wizard:

  1. Each co-author listed in the submission must have a verified ORCID
  2. The submitting author sees visual indicators — green for verified, red for pending
  3. The submission is blocked until all co-authors complete ORCID verification
  4. Authorization requests are automatically sent to co-authors who haven’t verified yet

Key features

  • Pre-submission enforcement — ORCIDs are verified before the manuscript enters the editorial workflow
  • Visual status tracking — clear indicators in the submission form show which co-authors still need verification
  • Auto-authorization — the plugin automatically triggers ORCID authorization requests for unverified co-authors
  • API-only mode — optionally disable manual ORCID entry to ensure all identifiers come from the official API
  • Developer mode — test the plugin workflow without a live ORCID API connection

Features

  • Blocks submission until all co-authors verify their ORCID via the official API
  • Visual status indicators in the submission wizard — green check (verified) or red warning (unverified)
  • Automatic ORCID authorization request checkbox pre-selected for co-authors
  • Option to disable manual ORCID field editing — forces API-only verification
  • Developer mode for testing without ORCID API connection
  • Localization: English, Polish

Requirements

  • • OJS 3.4+ or 3.5+
  • • Configured ORCID integration in OJS (Client ID + Client Secret)
